Lightscape returns to San Diego Botanic Garden for its fifth season from Friday, November 20, 2026 through Sunday, January 3, 2027. The after-dark holiday experience transforms the Encinitas garden into a one-mile trail of illuminated art, sound and seasonal atmosphere, with more than 20 new installations from international artists plus selected returning favorites.
Make it a full Encinitas evening with our date night guide, dinner at VAGA Restaurant & Bar at Alila Marea or tacos at Los Tacos in Encinitas and Carlsbad.
What You Will See
The 2026 trail is designed as an immersive walking experience rather than a single light display. Visitors move through glowing floral canopies, large-scale illuminated sculptures, tunnels of light, soundscapes and interactive visual moments. The organizer also highlights the return of fan favorites such as the Winter Cathedral.
Because the route runs through the Botanic Garden, the setting combines landscaped plant collections with temporary light art. Seasonal food and drinks are available along the experience, including options such as hot chocolate, mulled cider and other holiday treats. The event is designed for all ages and is commonly used for family outings, date nights and holiday gatherings.
2026 Dates and Entry Times
Lightscape operates on selected nights between November 20 and January 3. Tickets are sold for timed entry sessions. Current ticket listings show evening entry windows beginning around 5:00 PM in 15-minute intervals, with later sessions extending into the evening on selected dates. Exact time slots depend on the night selected and can sell out.
Ticket Prices
San Diego Botanic Garden lists general admission starting at $28 for adults and $18 for children. Children age 2 and under are free. Prices vary by date. Military discounts are available, and San Diego Botanic Garden members receive 20% off standard tickets throughout the season.
The official ticketing platform may show different prices for peak nights. Visitors should treat the published starting price as a minimum rather than a guaranteed rate for every date. An Anytime Access option is also offered for guests who want more flexibility.
Parking
Advance-purchase parking is $15 per vehicle. On-site parking without an advance pass is limited, subject to availability and listed at $20 per vehicle by the Garden. Because parking can sell out, advance purchase is strongly recommended. The venue is San Diego Botanic Garden, 300 Quail Gardens Drive in Encinitas.
Accessibility and Trail Conditions
The Lightscape route is approximately one mile. Ticketing information notes that some areas include dirt pathways and uneven terrain, while wheelchair-accessible routes are available. Guests with mobility needs should review the current accessibility information before selecting a date.
Ticket Changes and Refund Policy
Tickets are sold through Fever. San Diego Botanic Garden states that ticket sales are final and refunds are not available. Exchanges may be made up to 48 hours before the scheduled visit, subject to ticketing fees and availability.
Planning Tips
Book both admission and parking early for weekends and holiday-period dates. Wear comfortable walking shoes, plan for cooler evening temperatures in Encinitas and arrive in time for the assigned entry window. Since the experience is outdoors, check the organizer’s current event information before traveling if weather is uncertain.
Nearby holiday traditions include the Encinitas Holiday Parade and the Encinitas Holiday Street Fair. Heading north for more lights? See Holidays at Disneyland Resort.
