The Poway Rodeo returns to Poway Valley Riders Association Arena this fall. As a PRCA-sanctioned event, the Poway Rodeo attracts top-notch cowboys looking to qualify for the National Finals Rodeo in December. Performances take place at 7:30pm on September 25, and at 1pm and 7:30pm on September 26. Each performance kicks off with a rendition of the National Anthem, sung by a special artist at each performance. The rodeo competition includes bronc and bareback riding, team and tie-down roping, steer wrestling, mutton busting, barrel racing, bull riding, and a specialty act.
Sam’s Posse Exceptional Rodeo is back again this year at 10am on September 26, before the Saturday afternoon performance. The mission of Sam’s Posse is to enrich the lives of children living with intellectual and physical disabilities by supporting their needs and wishes. During the exceptional rodeo, each child is paired with a buddy to help them navigate through events such as stick pony barrel racing and pole bending, “not so rough stock” riding, and roping. The event includes interactions with rodeo queens and princesses, professional rodeo cowboys and cowgirls, and therapy horses.
After each evening rodeo performance, spectators can come out for a good time at the Rodeo Jam dance party. Live music is performed by Southern California country musicians TBA. The dance is for ages 21 and older. There is no cover charge.
Tickets range from $20 to $35 per person. Children 5 and under are free. General admission includes bleacher seating, with no assigned seats, so it is recommended to arrive early. VIP and shaded seating is also available. Poway Valley Riders Association Arena is located at 14336 Tierra Bonita Road, Poway. For more information, visit www.powayrodeo.com
