Hansen Surfboards was one of the first to pioneer surf, ski and snowboard retailing in San Diego. As the story goes, in 1962, Don Hansen moved his surfboard business from a small shack in Hawaii to a building in Cardiff. It was there that his shaping business really began to grow. By the mid-1960’s, Hansen Surfboards was shipping surfboards to many parts of the world. Hansen’s, now located in Encinitas on South Coast Highway 101, is the largest surf shop in San Diego County and they do a gigantic winter retail business as well.
